FAQs

Why PREP?

PREP is a critical way that APR exposes students to learning and experiences outside of the classroom. The goals of PREP are to 1) help students develop their interests, talents, passions and professional skills 2) encourage students to explore potential career interests, college campuses or community engagement opportunities, and 3) help APR students stand toe-to-toe with students in private and larger public schools who have the resources to use summertime to enhance their extracurricular backgrounds as they apply to college. PREP supports students in their learning at APR and beyond.

How many hours are students required to complete?

Students are required to complete at least 75 hours of PREP per summer.

Can a family member supervise a student in their PREP experience?

No. One goal of PREP is to help students learn professional skills and learn how to work well with adults outside of their families.

How much does PREP cost?

We strive to provide students with free or low-cost program options. Some programs do require families to contribute financially. Some programs offer financial aid, and we are happy to help students and families complete this process. Please help your student assess the financial burden of programs they are interested in participating in before they apply.

How will students get to their PREP programs?

Students are responsible for getting themselves to their PREP experiences. Students planning to take public transportation can use the school-provided MBTA passes, as they will be active until August 31st, 2025.
