College

Summer programs at colleges offer fantastic opportunities and are available at many colleges across the country.

Unfortunately, many programs are very expensive and few have substantial financial aid. While we predominantly promote PREP options that are stipended, free, or very low cost, we have included on this list programs that are moderately priced for students and families who are interested in exploring this as an option. Please make sure you speak to your family about how much they would be able to contribute financially.

Carleton Liberal Arts Experience

The Carleton Liberal Arts Experience (CLAE) is a week-long summer program for high school students. The curriculum explores African American history, identity, and contemporary culture through the framework of a liberal arts education. It’s designed for Black and African American students and those interested in African American studies. The free program provides exposure to highly rigorous, college-level coursework within the unique style of education found only at liberal arts colleges like Carleton.

CLAE is interdisciplinary, featuring courses in the humanities, arts, and STEM through the lens of African American studies. The program also prepares students for the college search, application process, and thriving at elite colleges.

Each CLAE cohort is comprised of 52 scholars from all across the U.S. Admission to the program is highly selective.

CTEQ Pre-College Program at Assumption

Each summer, high school students from across New England and around the country join Assumption University professors for a competitive pre-college program that introduces rising high school seniors to undergraduate studies in the liberal arts. Participating students gain firsthand experience of studying the humanities in a college setting. Our Pre-College Program gives high school students the opportunity to study great works of philosophy, literature, art, political science, and theology with nationally known faculty—as they simultaneously meet new friends and experience what collegiate academic life is like.
